Students – Community Partners Details

COMMUNITY PARTNER INFORMATION:
Organization:
Department of Communication (University of Ottawa)
Description:
A word from the Chair Welcome to the Department of Communication! Linking theory with practice, our baccalaureate programs are made up of courses that aim to develop critical thinking and analytical abilities and those that focus on the acquisition of professional skills. Our courses cover the two major fields of communication: media studies (both traditional and emerging media) and organizational communication (internal and external). The Honours Baccalaureate program and the Major in Communication offer a co-op option which allows students to alternate between study terms and paid work terms in industry or government. Co-op students complete their degree while gaining a year or more of practical work experience. The baccalaureate in journalism is offered jointly with Algonquin College and allows students to undertake their theoretical studies at the University of Ottawa and their hands-on training at Algonquin College. The Minor in Film Studies is a degree that is made up of courses from various departments of the Faculty of Arts and the Social Communication Program at Saint-Paul University. We also offer several graduate programs: a Master of Arts (M.A.) in Communication (with research paper or thesis); a course-based M.A. in Communication; a Graduate Certificate in Organizational Communication and a Graduate Certificate in Governmental Communication. Students in these programs will focus on one of the following five fields of specialization: media studies; organizational communication; governmental communication; health communication; identity and diversity in communication. More than ever the Department of Communication of the University of Ottawa is characterized by a variety of programs that aim to reflect on and address the challenges of the modern world.
