COMMUNITY PARTNER INFORMATION:
Organization:
Centretown Emergency Food Centre
Description:
the Centrtown Emergency Food Centre, located at 507 Bank Street, is a food bank (grocery program) serving the needy in the Centretown area of Ottawa. The Centre is open four days a week, Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday (closed Wednesday), and serves people living in our catchment area, that is, between Wellington Street, Main Street, including Lees Avenue, Billings Bridge and Lyon Street. We offer monthly service to them, providing a 3-4 day selection of food, including fresh vegetables and fruit, and, when necessary, additional assistance in same month. The Centre is a project of the Centretown Churches Social Action Committee, a group of 25 local churches, and is supported by the City of Ottawa, its member churches and many organizations. With only one full-time employee, volunteers play an essential in delivering our services. We also strive to direct our clients to other complementary services (drop-ins, meal program, health centres) to help meet their needs.
