Carole Workman, former Vice-Rector, Resources, was the recipient of the National Capital Region YMCA-YWCA Women of Distinction Award for workplace innovation on 5 May, 2005. During her 12-year tenure, Workman was recognized for her leadership role in managing the University’s budget and presiding over one of the greatest periods of restructuring and expansion on campus. Currently on leave to pursue graduate studies, Workman is nevertheless participating in a number of activities, including Ontario Buys, a provincial program that promotes better procurement and supply-chain management among large organizations. Workman is coordinating a pilot project funded by the program to explore the feasibility of having educational institutions conduct those transactions through online portals. A group of universities, colleges and school boards are collaborating on this project, which could eventually see them acquire many common goods and services more efficiently and economically using electronic networks. While she welcomes the Women of Distinction award, Workman suggests that it stands for values that she simply deems to be part of her job. Email: cworkman@uOttawa.ca |
