Life in residence reinvented
OTTAWA,

The University of Ottawa is announcing the latest addition to its housing roster, an exclusive residence for upper-year students. A purpose-built student residence, 45 Mann stands out from other student housing options in Ottawa due to a combination of the convenience and advantages of living in a university-operated residence with the benefits of off-campus living.
The demand for housing for all first-year students wishing to be in residence was met with the opening of the Rideau and Henderson residences in September 2015. Now, uOttawa’s Housing Service is shifting its focus to students entering second year and above. The partnership established for the Mann residence was highly motivated by the results of a recent student survey aimed at assessing the interest and needs of upper-year students in terms of unit style and location. With the students’ feedback in mind, uOttawa will welcome 385 new occupants when 45 Mann opens in September 2016.
Adjacent to the uOttawa Minto Sports Complex, the fully furnished suites will give returning students the opportunity to live on their own or with friends in a unit boasting two, three or four bedrooms and featuring a private bathroom for each resident and stainless steel appliances, including a built-in dishwasher, a washer and a dryer. Residents will also have access to a state-of-the-art fitness room, shared study spaces, a computer lounge, a games room and bike storage.
“This residence is very unique. Our innovative approach to working with the private sector is providing our students with the kind of lifestyle they desire. For us, there isn’t a one-size-fits-all approach to student housing, and we strive to find creative solutions that meet our students’ needs,” says Michel Guilbeault, director of Housing Service at the University of Ottawa.
The Mann residence is the fourth uOttawa residence project in the past 24 months. With completion of the residence, the University will answer the needs of upper-year students by increasing the number of residence spaces for uOttawa students by approximately 47% (from 2,985 to 4,398 places) in the span of two years.
