Research intensity climbs, collaboration shines in national rankings

OTTAWA, October 16, 2015  —  The University of Ottawa, still among the top 10 research institutions in Canada, has climbed one spot from 9 to 8 for research intensity—research income per full-time faculty member—and scored high in research partnerships supported by non-profits, according to Re$earch Infosource’s national Top 50 Research Universities rankings.

The University of Ottawa shines in research partnerships funded by non-profits, placing second for percent of non-profit research income vis-à-vis total research income in the medical/doctoral rankings, with 20% of its total research income coming from non-profit sources. As for total non-profit research income, the University of Ottawa ranks fourth overall in the medical/doctoral category. This underscores the University of Ottawa’s strong commitment to community-based research and collaboration. In addition, the University’s affiliated research institution, The Ottawa Hospital, placed fourth among 40 research hospitals in the Top 40 Research Hospitals rankings.

The recently published National Taiwan University Ranking (NTU) placed the University’s performance in terms of scientific papers in the top 200 among 330 institutions worldwide in the social sciences (67th), clinical medicine (88th), civil engineering (171st) and electrical engineering (183rd). These standings together with the recent national rankings affirm the University of Ottawa’s enviable reputation as one of the country’s most innovative and research-intensive institutions.
