Science and engineering researchers and students funded by the Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council
OTTAWA, June 22, 2015 — One hundred and two researchers and students at the University of Ottawa have received $12.8 million in grants and scholarships from the Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council of Canada (NSERC), to fund meaningful projects in a broad range of engineering and scientific fields.
Of this funding, a total of $9,844,315 is part the Discovery Grants and Discovery Grant Accelerator Supplements that will support research in areas ranging from novel solar energy devices, biofuel production and bioreactor landfill technologies to cryptography, nonlinear fiber optics , cell-imaging human thermoregulation and medicinal plants.
The remaining $2,730,500 will be shared among doctoral and postdoctoral students as NSERC scholarships and fellowships, which provide financial support to high-calibre students engaged in research in the natural sciences or engineering. Some of these current University of Ottawa students hail from prestigious international institutions, such as MIT and the Max-Planck Institute for Neurological Research.
In recognition of their research excellence, over the past month, researchers from the University of Ottawa and its affiliates have amassed over $70 million in funding, including the grants and scholarships described above. This incredible success reflects their passion for discovery and their commitment to carrying out research that will benefit all Canadians.
