OTTAWA, May 4, 2015  —  The University of Ottawa invites members of the media tothree events that will focus on the politics and economics of environmental sustainability. Join us for the Hon. Tom Mulcair’s first public address following the NDP’s historic win in Alberta.These events are part of the iVote-jeVote series hosted by the Jean-Luc Pepin Research Chair.

The event schedule is:

Can environmental sustainability be reconciled with political interests and economic realities?
WHAT: Panel discussion

Politics Editor for Maclean’s Magazine Paul Wells will moderate a panel of politicians that will feature: Elizabeth May, Leader of the Green Party; Megan Leslie, NDP Environment Critic and Deputy Leader; and the Honorable. John McKay, Liberal Environment Critic. Panelists will debate approaches and policy options for environmental sustainability. 

What is current research indicating about environmental policy and law?  What are the future trends and how does this compare to public opinion?

Panelists Nik Nanos, President and CEO of Nanos Research; Stewart Elgie, University of Ottawa professor and member of Canada’s Ecofiscal Commission; Gareth Jones, oil trader with Merrill-Lynch; and Mark Cameron, SVP, National Practice Leader, Energy and Natural Resources at Hill and Knowlton Strategies, will discuss environmental policy and law.

The Honorable Tom Mulcair will give a keynote address on the environment and Canada’s economy.

For the first time, iVote-jeVote will partner with Facebook to solicit questions from Canadians. Check the iVote-jeVote Facebook page for a live streaming of Tom Mulcair’s keynote address.

These events are part of iVote-jeVote, an initiative sponsored by the Jean-Luc Pepin Research Chair that aims to counter the drop in Canadian voter turnout, especially among underrepresented groups.
