MEDIA ADVISORY: i-Vote series: Women in Politics
OTTAWA, March 3, 2015 — The University of Ottawa invites members of the media to an afternoon of discussion about women in Canadian politics, including a keynote address by the Premier of Ontario Kathleen Wynne. This event is part of the iVote-jeVote series hosted by the Jean-Luc Pepin Research Chair.
The event schedule is:
“Women in politics: Where are the levers and what are the strategies to use them?”
WHAT: Symposium
WHEN: March 5, 2:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m.

Emeritus professor and Member of the Order of Canada Caroline Andrew will chair a panel of expert academics and practitioners who will debate and discuss the levers available to women in politics and how to use these levers. Topics include the importance of grassroots participation and pressure, reforming the nomination process, leadership, and media and voting behaviour.

In collaboration with Maclean’s magazine, Anne McGrath (NDP), Katie Telford (Liberal Party) and Michele Austin (Summa Strategies) will speak to their experiences as women at the helm of national political campaigns. As women in federal political operations, they bring the perspective of practitioners to the panel’s discussion of women in politics. What are the next steps for women in politics?
Moderated by Maclean’s Senior Writer Anne Kingston, this panel of political insiders will shed light on the intricacies of federal electoral politics and the stakes for all Canadians.

This event is part of iVote-jeVote, an initiative by the Jean-Luc Pepin Research Chair that aims to counter the drop in voter turnout in Canada, especially among underrepresented groups.
