MEDIA ADVISORY: Fifty Years of Official Bilingualism: Challenges, Analyses and Testimonies book launch
OTTAWA, February 24, 2015 — The Official Languages and Bilingualism Institute (OLBI) of the University of Ottawa invites members of the media to the launch of a new book, Fifty Years of Official Bilingualism: Challenges, Analyses and Testimonies. Co-authored by Richard Clément, OLBI director, and Pierre Foucher, Faculty of Law,the book looks at the progress made since the final report of the Royal Commission on Bilingualism and Biculturalism fifty years ago and at the challenges that we face today, from a political and academic perspective.
Commissioner of Official Languages Graham Fraser will be present to read excerpts of the book.

In 1963, the Canadian government established the Royal Commission on Bilingualism and Biculturalism, also known as the Laurendeau-Dunton Commission, to study Canada’s language situation. The commission’s recommendations changed the Canadian cultural landscape and brought major changes to language policy and human rights.
