MEDIA ADVISORY: A Right to Mental Health Treatment or a Right to Jail: The Supreme Court Decision of R v. Conception

The University of Ottawa invites members of the media to attend a seminar titled “A Right to Mental Health Treatment or a Right to Jail: The Supreme Court Decision of R v. Conception,” presented by the Centre for Health Law, Policy and Ethics and the Faculty of Law, Common Law Section.

In this seminar, Professor Jennifer Chandler and Dr. Jonathan Grey will discuss the recent Supreme Court of Canada decision of R. v. Conception about whether a court can insist that a psychiatric hospital admit an unfit accused person immediately, or whether the accused must wait for court-ordered treatment in jail until the hospital has space.
