MEDIA ADVISORY: Constructive Dissent: A Relic of Canada’s Parliamentary Past?
OTTAWA, November 21, 2014 — The University of Ottawa’s Faculty of Social Sciences invites members of the media to attend the second panel of the iVote-jeVote series, titled “Constructive Dissent: A Relic of Canada’s parliamentary past?”
During this hour and a half bilingual event presented by the Jean-Luc Pepin Research Chair, parliamentarians, media personalities and academics will contextualize, discuss and debate the centralization of power in party politics in Canada, its repercussions for parliamentary democracy and the impact/utility of the Reform Act in improving and ultimately, changing the current state of affairs. Moderated by Kevin Page, Canada’s first parliamentary budget officer and now Chairholder of the JLP, this event promises to be an engaging forum in which to address a critical issue.

The first iVote-jeVote panel, a new initiative by the Jean-Luc Pepin Research Chair to counter the drop in voter turnout in Canada, especially among 18 to 24 year olds, was held in March of this year.
