MEDIA ADVISORY: Professional athletes speak out on the fight against mental illness

OTTAWA, September 19, 2014  —  The University of Ottawa Brain and Mind Research Institute (uOBMRI) cordially invites members of the media to hear the following professional athletes describe their struggles to accept and recover from mental health issues.

Elizabeth Manley – Canadian Olympic silver medallist
Stéphane Richer – former Montreal Canadiens player
Shelley McKay – former Canadian national team athlete

WHAT: Professional athletes speak out on the fight against mental illness

Monday, September 22, at 5:30 p.m., speakers available at 4:30 p.m.

During this event, the athletes will share their personal stories about living with mental illness, overcoming the stigma of the disease, and their remarkable paths to recovery.
