New dean for Faculty of Law, Civil Law Section

OTTAWA, June 30, 2014  —  The University of Ottawa is pleased to announce the appointment of Céline Lévesque as dean of the Faculty of Law, Civil Law Section.

Lévesque is an author, lecturer and researcher, and full professor in the Faculty of Law. She is an expert in international investment law, her primary focus, as well as in international arbitration and international trade law.

After completing graduate studies in Europe and the United States, Lévesque, a civil law alumna, began her career at the World Bank in Washington.  Three years later, she came back home to the Civil Law Section as a professor, full of experience in infrastructure investment in developing countries, particularly in West Africa.

Lévesque was selected after a competitive, rigorous process that started in spring 2013. Speaking of her appointment, outgoing dean Sébastien Grammond said, “Professor Lévesque has more than 15 years’ experience in the Civil Law Section and enjoys an enviable reputation in the field of international law. I’m absolutely certain that she will be able to continue the section’s development.”

Lévesque’spriorities for her term include enriching the student experience and academic renewal, developing research and communications, improving and expanding graduate studies in law, and strengthening alumni relations and fundraising.

Lévesque’s appointment is effective July 1, for five years. She replaces Grammond, who has held the position of dean of the Civil Law Section for the last six years.
