OTTAWA, June 23, 2014  —  The Excellence in Media Relations Award, given annually and accompanied by a $5000 prize, recognizes two members of the University of Ottawa community (one francophone, one anglophone) who have demonstrated outstanding service to the University by sharing their expertise with the wider community through media.

NEW AND IMPROVED
In an effort to recognize the media contributions of our experts, uOttawa is proud to announce two new Excellence in Media Relations Award categories - research and commentary. These new categories, which will alternate each year, create a smaller pool of candidates, therefore increasing each nominee’s chances of receiving the award.

2014 – Excellence in Media Relations Award: Research

Focusing on media coverage related to research, this award aims to recognize individuals who have successfully promoted research results in the media. Their research findings may have been published by partners, Faculty staff or the Media Relations Office. These findings may be covered in the general media in the months following the initial announcement of results.

Eligibility criteria:

• Media coverage must date between June 1, 2012 and May 30, 2014
• Nominee must currently be employed by the University of Ottawa
• Submitted media clippings must solely cover research findings. Clippings that cover expert commentary will not be considered.

You are invited to nominate candidates for the 2014 – Excellence in Media Relations Award: Research by July 31, 2014. You may download the online form and return the requested documents to the Media Relations Office.

It has been a busy year for our researchers in the media; therefore, we encourage you to inform your friends and colleagues who might also be interested in nominating someone.
