MEDIA ADVISORY: Faculty of Medicine to honour anatomy donors at annual memorial service
OTTAWA, June 2, 2014 — Faculty members, staff and students will come together with families and friends of donors in a memorial service on June 3, 2014, to honour individuals who have donated their bodies to the Faculty of Medicine.
The service is held annually to recognize the immeasurable contributions made by body donors to the advancement of medical education. Among the keynote speakers this year is John Houston. His father, John Hartley Houston, was a donor whose selfless act was considered pioneering at the time as he hailed from a rural town where body donations were uncommon.

WHEN: Tuesday, June 3, 2014, at 11 a.m.
WHERE: Pinecrest Remembrance Services, 2500 Baseline Road (east of Greenbank)
Anatomy donors are persons who had their bodies given to the Division of Clinical and Functional Anatomy at the University of Ottawa’s Faculty of Medicine. The Division’s Body Donation Program helps emphasize the educational importance of the human body in assisting medical students, residents and practicing physicians acquire greater knowledge of human anatomy and further develop their skills.
