MEDIA ADVISORY: Panel on Venezuela: Transition to Democracy?
OTTAWA,

The University of Ottawa invites members of the media to a panel discussion on the current socio-political crisis in Venezuela. The panel, presented by the Human Rights Research and Education Centre, will analyze the current human rights and political crisis from different perspectives, as well as examine possible outcomes for Venezuela.

The following topics will be covered:
- Neo-authoritarian features of the current regime
- Militarism of the so-called Bolivarian revolution
- Structure and dynamics of power in the Bolivarian Revolution
- Constitutional aspects of the crisis, with particular emphasis on the human rights implications of the dismantling of the judiciary and parliamentary institutions in Venezuela in the last 15 years
