University of Ottawa research on the rise in Canadian rankings

OTTAWA, October 17, 2013  —  As the University of Ottawa raises its profile as a top international research institution through a research and training partnership with China, it is also proving itself a top Canadian research university. According to the national Top 50 Research Universities rankings published by Research Infosource, uOttawa is moving up among the top ten institutions in Canada.

The University has moved from ninth to eighth place overall among the top 50 research universities in Canada, due to a sizable growth in research income, from $276 million last year to over $302 million —an increase of 9.5%. This is the eighth largest increase among the 50 institutions listed in the report.

On the research intensity front, the University has also moved up one place to seventh, with total income per faculty member increasing to $236,800 from $213,100 the previous year.

“We are delighted to occupy this prominent position among Canadian research universities. These standings reflect the excellence of our community — researchers, students and staff — and above all, bring us a step closer to reaching the goals laid out in our strategic plan,” says Mona Nemer, vice-president, research at the University of Ottawa.
