MEDIA ADVISORY—Aboriginal Celebration to Showcase Tradition and Culture

OTTAWA, September 9, 2013  —  The University of Ottawa Faculty of Medicine will hold its annual Aboriginal Celebration on Victoria Island, a traditional Algonquin territory. First-year medical students will kick off the academic year by participating in this full-day event designed to promote awareness and understanding of the health issues that affect the wellbeing of First Nations, Inuit and Métis communities.

What: The Aboriginal Celebration: A Showcase of Tradition and Culture
When: Wednesday, September 11, 2013, starting at 11:45 a.m.
Where: Victoria Island on the Ottawa River (from Booth Street heading towards Gatineau, take the first right after the Canadian War Museum)

Students will have an opportunity to experience the cultural diversity and richness of authentic Aboriginal traditions on historic Victoria Island. This venue provides an idyllic setting for participants to enjoy traditional food, First Nation dances, drumming, Inuit throat singing and Métis fiddle and jig.
