The Right Honourable Paul Martin to receive uOttawa honorary doctorate along with 8 other outstanding figures
OTTAWA, May 2, 2013 — The Right Honourable Paul Martin, Canada’s 21st Prime Minister, Privacy Commissioner Jennifer Stoddart and actor Anne-Marie Cadieux are among the outstanding figures who will receive honorary doctorates from the Right Honourable Michaëlle Jean, University of Ottawa chancellor, during 2013 Spring Convocation.
The University of Ottawa is proud to announce its 2013 honorary doctorate recipients, people who have distinguished themselves through their major contribution to the University, to their profession or to society in general.
The Right Honourable Paul Martin, lawyer, businessperson and politician. Minister of Finance from 1993 to 2002 and Prime Minister of Canada from 2003 to 2006. Founder of the Martin Aboriginal Education Initiative, Mr. Martin is a member of the Advisory Council of the Coalition for Dialogue on Africa. He also chairs the Congo Basin Forest Fund.
Jennifer Stoddart, Lawyer and Privacy Commissioner of Canada. Recognized for her major contribution to the advancement of women in the legal profession.
Dr. Alain Carpentier, internationally renowned French heart surgeon. Founder and director of the Laboratoire d’étude des greffes et prothèses cardiaques at Université Paris VI.
Anne-Marie Cadieux, theatre, film and television actor. Recipient of many acting awards, including a Jutra.
Michael Chambers, sportsperson, and commerce and law alumnus. President of the Canadian Olympic Committee from 2001 to 2010.
Elizabeth Cannon, expert in geomatics engineering, and in the forefront of GPS research. President and vice-chancellor of the University of Calgary since 2010.
André Marcheterre, administrator and pharmaceutical industry leader. President of Merck Frosst from 1997 to 2006.
Albert Bandura, highly influential Canadian psychologist and David Starr Jordan Professor of Social Science in Psychology / Emeritus at Stanford University. Recognized for his social cognitive theory.
Michel Waldschmidt, world-class French mathematician whose research has had a profound impact on number theory. Father of the great French school of transcendental number theory, with at least 65 scientific descendants.

The honorary doctorates will be conferred during the Convocation ceremonies, which will take place June 7 to 11, 2013, at the National Arts Centre in Ottawa.
Dr. Alain Carpentier will receive his honorary doctorate during the Faculty of Medicine Convocation, which will take place Thursday, May 16, at 2 p.m., at the Ottawa Convention Centre.
