MEDIA ADVISORY: uOttawa celebrates physicist's win of prestigious King Faisal International Prize for Science
OTTAWA, April 2, 2013 — The University of Ottawa invites the media to take part in a celebration to honour Professor Paul Corkum, the third Canadian ever to win the King Faisal International Prize for Science, one of the world’s most prestigious awards. Thanks to his ground-breaking work on attosecond imaging, Corkum joins an elite list of some 200 distinguished scholars and scientists from around the world.
Professor Paul Corkum will be returning from Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, where he received the award. Winners of the King Faisal International Prize obtain a commemorative 24-carat, 200-gram gold medallion and a cash endowment of $200,000, one of the Arab world’s most generous prizes.

Professor Paul Corkum, Department of Physics, is a world-leading specialist in lasers and nanotechnology. He secured his international reputation when he became the first to successfully produce 650-attosecond pulses, which are incredibly short flashes of light that allow scientists to capture the movement of subatomic particles to observe molecular reactions as they occur.
