The forgotten history of Black Canadians

OTTAWA, March 26, 2013  —  Under the direction of Professor Boulou Ebanda de B’béri, the Promised Land Project has developed many tools to raise awareness about, and update information on, the forgotten history of Black Canadians. From 2007 to 2012, experts in cultural studies, communication, history and theatre studies gathered together to study the Black communities that formed in Southern Ontario during the mid-19th century.

In addition to documentaries, reconstructions, and numerous workshops, conferences and symposia, the project developed five databases, one of which is an interactive tool that allows users to view a series of historical, cultural and socio-demographic maps.
