OTTAWA, October 3, 2012  —  The University of Ottawa Press (UOP) today announced the most recent titles added to the UOP collection. Lara Mainville, director of UOP, also announced the launch of two new series, as well as an exciting new partnership with the Canadian Museum of Civilization and a partnership with the University of Ottawa Library Network in support of the open access. Today also marked the unveiling of the new visual identity of the University’s publishing house, one that speaks to modernity yet reflects the history of this classic institution, founded in 1936.

Since UOP’s previous launch in October 2011, the Press has added a total of 21 English and French monographs, collective works and journals in a variety of disciplines in the humanities and social sciences, including philosophy, literature, translation studies, international development and globalization, governance, risk management, Canadian francophonie studies and cultural transfer. Upcoming publications include works on ethnology, archeology, politics, criminology, translation studies and literary translation, philosophy, law and literature. Works published by UOP include authors and researchers affiliated not only with the University of Ottawa but also postsecondary institutions across Canada and abroad.

The two new series, Health and Society (edited by Sanni Yaya) and Law, Technology and Society (edited by Michael Geist), provide valuable new collections for topics of interest today where further scholarly research is needed. UOP also announced an innovative partnership with the University’s Library Network to make new titles available through open access at the time of publication—something not yet adopted by many academic publishing houses. The University of Ottawa Press and the Canadian Museum of Civilization have concluded a copublishing agreement for the Museum’s flagship collection, the Mercury Series.

“The Press is embarking on a period of renewal, bringing a new level of enthusiasm to the entire UOP team,” says Robert Major, UOP chair. “A new board of directors and editorial board have reinvigorated the Press. Together, we are working to position ourselves as a leader in the publishing world of tomorrow. I’m very pleased with all these wonderful initiatives we’ve announced here tonight.”

UOP is Canada’s oldest French-language university press and the only fully bilingual university press in North America, publishing in both French and English in the social sciences and humanities. Since 1936, over a thousand titles have been published, with 442 in circulation today. More than 300 electronic documents are currently available in a variety of formats, and, since 2009, each new title is published in print format as well as in digital format, making the University of Ottawa Press a leader in digital publishing.
