Ottawa Dialogue makes further recommendations on India-Pakistan nuclear agreements
OTTAWA, June 25, 2012 — At a recent meeting in Copenhagen, a group of retired senior officials, military officers and academics from India and Pakistan adopted a list of recommendations with regard to nuclear confidence-building.
These recommendations are part of an ongoing program of work on nuclear relations, both strategic and civilian, between India and Pakistan known as the Ottawa Dialogue. The Dialogue is led by University of Ottawa professor Peter Jones of the Graduate School of Public and International Affairs.
The Ottawa Dialogue has the put forth these proposals for governments to consider in upcoming official discussions on nuclear confidence-building.
The recommendations cover both military issues related to nuclear weapons and topics related to civilian nuclear cooperation, including the safe operation of nuclear power plants and consequence management of nuclear accidents.
The Copenhagen meeting was sponsored by the Danish Foreign Ministry and the Near East South Asia (NESA) Center for Strategic Studies at the National Defense University in Washington, DC.
