MEDIA ADVISORY: International conference in Ottawa explores the interplay between history, memory and performance
OTTAWA, April 18, 2012 — The conference History, Memory, Performance brings together scholars, students and practitioners engaged in the disciplines of public history, theatre studies and related fields. This bilingual, interdisciplinary event, organized by the University of Ottawa’s Department of Theatre and Carleton University’s Centre for Public History, runs from Thursday, April 19, to Saturday, April 21, at the University of Ottawa.

The program includes
• two keynote lectures open to the public from internationally renowned scholars:
o Professor Freddie Rokem (University of Tel-Aviv, Israël)
o Emeritus Professor Jean-Pierre Sarrazac (Université Paris III-Sorbonne Nouvelle)
• two special lunchtime events:
o Wajdi Mouawad, artistic director of the National Arts Centre’s French Theatre, in conversation with uOttawa Professor Sylvain Schryburt
o Hannah Moscovitch and Joël Beddow in conversation about his production of her play East of Berlin
• Roundtable on First Nations theatre
• 26 academic panels with more than a hundred presentations
• Seven working groups and workshops
