MEDIA ADVISORY: One country, two francophone communities—a media influencer’s experience
OTTAWA, March 21, 2012 — As part of the Mois de la francophonie, Bernard Derome will give a talk entitled Un pays, deux francophonies, Thursday, March 22, at 1:30 p.m., in the Desmarais Building. [In French]
Bernard Derome, Quebec journalist, news anchorperson, announcer and television host, will discuss the very different paths taken by Francophones in Quebec and in the rest of Canada. Radio-Canada and many Francophone media outlets have played a key role in defending Francophones and supporting their growth in Canada. In this time of new media, what will be the future of these two communities and of the French language within Canada’s two solitudes?

Professor Marc-François Bernier, Research Chair in communication of the Canadian Francophonie, specializing in journalism ethics, will host this event.
Allan Rock, University of Ottawa president, will make the closing remarks.
This talk is organized by the University of Ottawa’s Collège des chaires de recherche sur la francophonie canadienne, along with the Faculty of Arts, the Institute of Canadian Studies, the Official Languages and Bilingualism Institute and the Centre de recherche en civilisation canadienne-française.
