Research Information:

Dr. Benchimol conducts epidemiology, outcomes, and health services research in patients with inflammatory bowel disease (IBD). He is leading the health services research and quality improvement initiatives for the Canadian Children IBD Network. His work created The Ontario Crohn’s and Colitis Cohort, the world’s largest ongoing surveillance cohort of IBD patients. Dr. Benchimol also chairs the Canadian Gastro-Intestinal Epidemiology Consortium (CanGIEC), which conducts national research on IBD and other chronic illnesses using health administrative data. Dr. Benchimol’s work is focused on improving the way the health care system treats children with IBD, at a clinical, provincial, and national level.
