After the University of Ottawa adopted its Vision 2010 strategic plan in 2005, it then wanted to translate its vision, its directions and its objectives into concrete, measurable terms. It therefore set improvement targets for nineteen indicators best reflecting its goals and measures of success, and incorporated these targets into a scorecard. The information was then shared with the entire University community so that all could move in the same direction.
The 2008 edition of the University of Ottawa’s scorecard measures the actual impact of the initiatives launched under Vision 2010 and thus shows our progress to date. In sum, after three years, four of our targets for 2010 have already been reached, and we have made headway on twelve other indicators: our collective efforts are indeed paying off.
Still, indicators for linguistic balance and for learning spaces have not progressed as we would have liked. So, though we have done well— and even excelled—on several indicators, there is still room for improvement in certain areas. Since we truly want students to be at the core of our educational mission, we have to continue to work on all fronts.
Given the quality and dedication of both our academic and support staffs, I am confident that we will continue to make significant progress.
