Vision 2010: The Consultation Process
White Papers
More than 150 people helped produce the white papers. Each roundtable, in fact, gathered between 10 and 15 participants: regular and part-time professors, University administrators and support staff, students, alumni, donors, retirees and members of the Board of Governors and the surrounding community.
Though presented with a series of basic theme-related questions, the roundtables were free not only to select the focus they felt was essential, but also to look at the theme or topic from other perspectives. So, a bit of overlapping – and even redundancies and contradictions – here and there should come as no surprise.
What’s more, discussions took place at a feverish pace. Given the limited time for deliberations and the wide variety of participants, the papers themselves come in all shapes and sizes. We’ve posted them essentially as submitted, with virtually no revision. Do remember that the papers are not official University documents per se, but rather the result of impromptu discussions from different groups, posted simply for your own review and consideration.
During the summer, the white paper recommendations were assembled into a preliminary draft of the official University-wide discussion paper on strategic institutional directions.
