Of course there’s more than school that happens in a day at the University of Ottawa. Hi, my name is Leah and let me show you what is available for you. A great way to stay active, meet new people, and compete in a sport is through Sports Services. All University of Ottawa registered students have access to all sports facilities; so whether you are competing, or just trying to stay fit, you can include some time at either Montpetit Hall or the Sports Complex in your weekly schedule!
Montpetit is the most centrally located athletic facility and features three full-size gymnasiums, an Olympic-size swimming pool with four diving platforms, Tae E. Lee martial arts room, a dance studio, three squash courts and Fitness Centre which includes 24 cardiovascular machines, 16 selectorized weight machines, 5000 pounds of free weights.
The Sports Complex, at the south end of our downtown campus, is a $24 million dollar health and lifestyle centre, which houses two NHL-size ice rinks, one outdoor multi-sports field, a multi-sports room with hardwood floors, two squash courts and a health and lifestyle fitness centre which includes 39 cardiovascular machines, 26 selectorized weight machines, 7500 pounds of free weights, cardio-theatre, personalized fitness and lifestyle evaluation as well as the sports medicine, athletic therapy and physiotherapy clinics.
Sports Services strives to enrich the experience of all University of Ottawa students by promoting a healthy and active lifestyle and delivering over 100 dynamic and quality instructional, intramural, recreational and outdoor programs.
Intramurals offer a variety of sports to provide participants with the best competitive and recreational experience possible. The level of participation for intramurals is one of the highest in Canada with over 4500 participants in intra-mural sports program.
Instructional programs give students the opportunity to learn and/or perfect a variety of sport or leisure activities. You can choose from a multitude of certifications, dance programs, martial arts, fencing, wellness, skating classes, and sporting activities.
For students who are looking for a more competitive or elite level of athletics, we have 18 competitive clubs and 10 varsity sports.
Even if you are not a “superstar athlete,” Sports Services can accommodate your needs and allow you to participate in an active and healthy lifestyle on campus during your studies.
