Libraries

Hi guys! I'm Meaghan, and I'm taking you to some of the busiest locations on campus... the libraries.

Here's the lobby of Morisset Hall, the main arts and science library. Around us are services like the reference desk, and back there is a mentoring centre; over there is a computer lab and even a coffee shop! The media resources room: newspapers from all around the world, and special microfilm equipment to explore magazines and publications from way back when...

We’re now on the third floor, home of the GSG – the Geographic, Statistical and Government Information Centre. It houses tons of tools like maps and documents with all sorts of official data.

Up quietly to the 4th floor of Morisset. This is a more traditional study environment, where you tuck yourself away in a cubical or work on group projects in a seminar room. Now, on the 5th floor, you still settle in to study, but the atmosphere is more relaxed; so just grab a seat with your friends and catch up on some reading.

How about a look at our four other, more specialized campuslibraries?

The new Telfer School of Management Library in the Desmarais Building focuses on electronic references, but it also has carefully selected hardcopy resources—not to mention nice, quiet study spaces.

The Isobel Firestone Music Library here in Perez Hall has an array of music material that would dazzle Mozart himself; it also has a soundproof cubicle and even music specialists to guide you through the collection.

Our future lawyers use the Brian-Dickson Law Library in Fauteux Hall—reading legislation and statutes calls for a lot of concentration--luckily there's a very quiet reading room.

On to the Health Sciences Library at Guindon Hall: students in nursing, medicine, physiotherapy and other health specialties consult an amazing collection of medical journals and encyclopedias here.

That's our quick visit! Now, to make sure you really get to know your way around the book stacks, e-references and everything else on hand at our libraries, come and take one of their tours.

The University of Ottawa main library, located in Morisset Hall, houses the Media Resources, the Archives and Special Collections, and the Geographic, Statistical and Government Information. Morisset Hall also has a newly opened Café.

The five other specialized libraries are the Brian Dickson Law Library located in Fauteux Hall, the Health Sciences Library located at the Roger Guindon campus, the Management Library located in the Desmarais building, the Music Library located in Perez Hall, and the Annex – an off-site storage facility to house less-used portions of the collection.
