Medicine at Roger Guindon

Hi! I’m John, a student here at the University of Ottawa. Today, I’m going to show you around Roger Guindon Hall located on the University’s medical campus. Come on; let’s check it out!

You can find this facility right between the Ottawa Hospital General Campus and CHEO, the Children’s Hospital of Eastern Ontario.

Here we are in the main atrium. You’ll definitely bump into plenty of friends and other students here, as well as professors, who are either physicians in the hospitals or doctors performing research… If you look one way, you’ll see the hallway leading to the general hospital; on the other side, you will see the hallway leading to CHEO.

What better place to study medicine than between two major hospitals!

At Roger Guindon, there are all sorts of different classrooms. Here’s our biggest one: … welcome to Amphitheatre A!

Students often end up in the Health Sciences Library at some point for some study time. But there are also specialized rooms where students separate into teams and study medicine using the Case-Based Learning approach.

Medical students spend plenty of time in the labs as well studying anatomy and histology. Just like the classrooms, the labs are equipped with multimedia learning resources. And best of all, students have access to these labs all day long, so they have freedom to study whatever they want, whenever they want.

It’s important that all students have a sense of well-being. The Student Affairs Office offers service and support with personal, financial, career and health concerns … And don’t forget the Undergraduate Medical Education Office, which handles everything related to your academic profile and supports students from admission to graduation.

Well, I wish I could stay and chat, but break time is over! I hope you enjoyed the visit!

Located at 451 Smyth Road, the Faculty of Medicine is part of the University of Ottawa’s health sciences complex called Roger Guindon Hall. The complex is the core of an 80-acre health sciences centre that includes The Ottawa General Hospital, the Children's Hospital of Eastern Ontario, the Royal Ottawa Regional Rehabilitation Centre and the Ottawa Regional Cancer Centre.

Although not part of the downtown University campus, the complex is accessible by bus, car, bike, or the free shuttle service from the main campus.
