Law at Fauteux
Hi, my name is Leah and I’m here at the Faculty of Law at the University of Ottawa. As in most professional programs, students in the Faculty of Law are grouped together in one location on campus.
Fauteux Hall is the home of the Faculty of Law and is where the administration and faculty offices, and lecture halls are located. In addition, Fauteux also houses the Brian Dickson Law Library, which is an ideal setting for study group sessions or research, and it also contains the beautiful Brian Dickson Reading Room which provides a nice quiet place to read or study. Fauteux Hall also contains a moot court where law students can gain critical oral advocacy skills and compete with law students from other institutions. Inside Fauteux students will also find a large student lounge with wireless access, the Faculty of Law Student Society headquarters, and student-run bookstores.
The Faculty offers the possibility of studying either Common Law or Civil Law, the two legal systems in place in Canada. The University of Ottawa is an ideal setting to study law due to its location and bilingual atmosphere. We are located just minutes away from Parliament Hill and the Supreme Court and many other government departments and tribunals, so students have the opportunity to observe first-hand the legal proceedings that are taking place in our Nation’s Capital. The University of Ottawa is the largest bilingual university in North America, so students in at the Faculty of Law can study in French or English, or both.
I’ve really enjoyed my experiences in the Common Law program here at the University, and I encourage you to come on campus to see what studying law in the National Capital Region is all about.
The Faculty of Law has two sections: Common Law and Droit Civil - both are housed in Fauteux Hall. The Human Rights Research and Education Centre, the Canadian Centre for Linguistic Rights, and the Brian Dickson Law Library are also located in this building.
