Submit a letter to the editor
Continue the conversation that Tabaret started and tell us your thoughts. Letters to the editor should be brief—200 words or less are recommended—and must be a comment about something you read or saw in Tabaret online. Tabaret reserves the right to edit letters for length, style and clarity. Please email your letters, including your full name and location, to tabaret@uOttawa.ca. If you are an alumnus or alumna, let us know your graduating year and class.
Submit a story idea
Many of Tabaret’s best articles come from ideas submitted by readers. Please email your suggestions to the editor at tabaret@uOttawa.ca, including a brief outline explaining who or what your idea is about and why it is a good story for Tabaret. Not every idea will be accepted, but we promise you that every idea will be considered.
Request a correction
Have you found a spelling or factual error, or something that just doesn’t make sense? Help Tabaret stay on top of things by telling us about it. Please email us at tabaret@uOttawa.ca with details about the error and a request for correction. We will give your suggestion our full attention and, if we accept it, will publish an appropriate correction.
Submit freelance work
If you are a freelance writer, photographer or illustrator interested in contributing to Tabaret, please read the information below and visit our website before submitting your ideas to the editor at tabaret@uOttawa.ca.
Submit articles
Tabaret is the University of Ottawa’s digital magazine for its alumni and friends. All material is published in French and English, with the exception of letters to the editor, which are published in the language received.
Tabaret does not publish unsolicited articles. However, if you send one, it will be read by the editor. Preferably, email us a detailed but brief description of your story idea and why it would be a good fit for Tabaret. Tell us why you’d be the best writer for the job. Reinforce this by sending some samples of your writing, as well as a short resumé. We try to respond to freelancer queries promptly. If you haven’t heard from us within a month, feel free to submit your idea again, or take it to another publication.
To be accepted, articles should be written for the web in a jargon-free, journalistic style. Every article is edited for length, style and clarity. Tabaret encourages a friendly, collaborative relationship with its authors and sends them final edited drafts before having them translated. For articles written in English, please refer to the University of Ottawa’s Writing Guide.
For articles written in French, please refer to the University of Ottawa’s Guide de rédaction.
Submit photographs and illustrations
If you live in the National Capital Region, please consider making an appointment with the editor to show us your work. A friendly email introducing yourself with links to your gallery or attachments of your work is a worthwhile venture, too.
