Professor Yves Le Bouthillier is poised to become the next president of the Law Commission of Canada. The proposed appointment was made on March 29, 2005 by justice minister Irwin Cotler and must be referred to the Commons Standing Committee on Justice, Human Rights, Public Safety and Emergency Preparedness for review.
Le Bouthillier, who will replace acting president Bernard Colas, is currently vice-dean of the French Common Law Program. He teaches various aspects of international law, as well as immigration and refugee law. His studies pertain not only to these areas, but also to language rights issues.
