Mitchell Sharp Studio inaugurated

Aline Chrétien and Jeanne D'arc Sharp
The Department of Music celebrated the dedication of the Mitchell Sharp Studio, in Perez Hall, with the help of several special guests.

Jeanne D’Arc Sharp, Mitchell Sharp’s widow (right), was joined by Aline Chrétien and a long list of famous musicians and political stars, on Sunday, February 6, 2005 to honour the politician’s life and love of music.

His beloved Steinway grand piano will now be used by music students for rehearsals. In an Ottawa Citizen article discussing the dedication, Jeanne d’Arc Sharp expressed her delight with the suitable home found for the instrument.

“This was the very first bequest in Mitchell’s will,” she told the paper. “He loved the idea that the instrument he loved so much would be used for teaching and for practising. There was nothing in the world that he loved so much as music.”
