Graduates of the 2003 University of Ottawa Bachelor in Science of Nursing program excelled in the Canadian Registered Nurse Examination. There are four required components of the exam. Students in the English and French programs scored above both the national and provincial averages in each of those four components.
More than 150 graduates of the Faculty of Medicine attended the Dean’s Alumni Reception as part of Homecoming celebrations. For the contingent from the class of 1953, it was a particularly special occasion as they were celebrating their 50th anniversary since graduation. Only three such classes have so far reached that milestone in the Faculty of Medicine.
In his welcoming remarks Dean Peter Walker noted that Dr. Reine-Aimée Lachaine was the one and only woman among 47 graduates in 1953. Today the Faculty takes pride in the fact that 65 per cent of the 135 first-year students are women. “In the francophone program fully 80 per cent are women,” Walker said.
Dean Walker also gave a geographic snapshot of the Faculty in 2003. Students hail from all regions of Canada with the majority coming from Ontario (106 students).
