Nancy Edwards has received the 2004 Award for Excellence in Nursing Research from the Canadian Association of Schools of Nursing (CASN).
The award recognizes her sustained research activities, along with her commitment to mentorship and her leadership in the promotion of nursing research within academic circles and external organizations with which she works closely.
Edwards is a community health nurse and epidemiologist. Her research interest is the design and evaluation of multiple interventions for population health. Because of this work, in 2000, she was awarded a Nursing Chair co-funded by the Canadian Health Services Research Foundation and the Canadian Institutes of Health Research.
She administers “Multiple Interventions for Community Health” – a research, education and mentoring program that is part of this chair.
Edwards's research deals also with primary health care in developing countries, namely China, where she has travelled numerous times to promote public health. She has led national and international studies addressing a number of issues: tobacco cessation, fall prevention for seniors, postpartum follow-up, breastfeeding and mammography screening.
Edwards will receive her award on November 17, 2004 during CASN's annual meeting.
