University press welcomes new director

  Micheal O'Hearn

The University of Ottawa Press (UOP) is planning to expand its publishing program and heighten its profile under its newly appointed director.

Michael O’Hearn, the former publisher of Novalis, brings more than 20 years of experience in trade book and magazine publishing to the UOP, Canada’s oldest French-language university press and the only bilingual university press in North America. Since 1936, UOP publications have contributed significantly to the understanding of Canadian society and culture.

Mona Nemer, Vice-President, Research, referring to Novalis’ growth under O’Hearn’s leadership, said, “I have no doubt that his experience will help our own press forge ahead.”

Added O’Hearn, “I see the creative heritage (of the UOP) as an inspiration and a valuable resource for maintaining rigorous scholarly standards, thereby contributing to the University of Ottawa’s already well-deserved reputation as an institution of academic excellence.”

Under the guidance of interim director Gilles Paquet since 2006, the UOP significantly increased its annual output.
