Faculty of Education prizes

  Yves Herry

The Faculty of Education handed out two prizes during its annual award ceremony on October 28, in recognition of the exceptional contribution and devotion of its professors and support staff.

Yves Herry, associate vice-president with the Teaching and Learning Support Service, received the Award for Excellence in Research. The recipient of many grants, including from the Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council of Canada and from the Ontario Ministry of Education, Herry is a prolific researcher who focuses on psychopedagogy and the impact of pedagogical strategies in child development. He has also conducted research in the area of education within a French-language minority environment.

Herry is part of the core research team of the Better Beginnings, Better Futures project, since 2001. This is longitudinal research group on the long-term effects of early childhood prevention programs on disadvantaged children in Canada.

As vice-dean, research and professional development, Herry played an important role in developing the faculty’s research activities, helping to position it as third in Canada in terms of the impact of its education research publications and attracting $8.5 million in research funding over the past three years, compared to $2.7 million five years ago.

Passionate about teaching, Herry has taught at the faculty for nearly 20 years and, over the course of his career, has published numerous books, book chapters, articles and research papers.

  Lalonde

Carole Lalonde, administrative assistant in the Practicum Office since 1997, received the 2008 Support Staff Award for Excellence. In her office, Lalonde manages the front lines of client services, a responsibility she handles remarkably well in spite of a heavy workload. In fact, registrations for the formation à l’enseignement and teacher education programs have increased significantly over the past several years, and practicum deadlines are tighter than ever.

Independent, versatile and methodical, Lalonde offers her support and shares her knowledge unhesitatingly. She is admired and respected by her colleagues for her listening skills, her congeniality and open-mindedness.

Lalonde has worked for the University of Ottawa for 17 years, including 11 of these at the Faculty of Education.
