On Leadership

What makes a good leader?

It is this very question that notable women in senior decision-making roles across a variety of disciplines are answering as part of the Women and Leadership Speaker Series.

Co-chaired by Professor Caroline Andrew of the Faculty of Social Sciences and Nathalie Des Rosiers, Dean of the Faculty of Law, Civil Law Section, the series of informal discussions is a unique opportunity for guests to hear different perspectives on leadership as interpreted by invited speakers.

The first of these informal discussions took place earlier this fall with the former dean of the engineering faculty, Dr. Tyseer Aboulnasr, speaking. Dr. Aboulnasr spoke about her interpretation of a good leader and the importance of leading with a vision.

More recently, Dr. Huguette Labelle, the University’s Chancellor, delivered an inspirational speech to a group of more than one hundred guests, including students, staff, faculty and community members. Her words were a positive reflection on her approach towards leadership. “Do the best that you can in the position that you have today. If you are exceptional in your current role, people will notice,” remarked Labelle.

The next event in this series will take place on December 4 with the Honourable Monique Bégin of the Telfer School of Management. For more information on this event, visit www.president.uOttawa.ca.
