The Executive Committee of the Board of Governors of the University of Ottawa appointed alumnus André E. Lalonde, professor of mineralogy and geology in the Department of Earth Sciences, dean of the Faculty of Science. Lalonde has been acting as interim dean since the summer of 2006.
Professor Lalonde holds an MSc and PhD from McGill University and a BSc from the University of Ottawa. He has taught in the Departments of Geology and Earth Sciences at the University since 1986. In 2001, he was a visiting research scholar at Akita University, Japan. He has significantly contributed to his discipline in various capacities, including serving as associate editor of Canadian Mineralogist from 2003 to 2006.
