As we approach the end of 2003, we look back at a very eventful year at the University of Ottawa.
I am particularly pleased with the inroads we have made in being recognized as Canada’s university. When we undertook this repositioning initiative, we knew it would be one of the greatest challenges of our history. However, events in the past few months have proven that our decision was the right one.
Many high profile people have supported and encouraged our branding exercise. We have done a number of things as a university community to promote our vision. For example, we presented the inaugural Distinguished Canadian Leadership Awards and created the Jean Chrétien Scholarships.
Another turning point this year was the arrival of the first wave of the famous double cohort. It is only the beginning of a phenomenon that will be with us for several years to come. That being said, the beginning of the school year in September was an unmitigated success. I firmly believe we can offer our students a university experience of exceptional quality.
As I reflect on the important stepping stones of the past year, I am drawn towards a cornerstone, namely, the excellent work accomplished by all University of Ottawa staff. On the eve of taking some well-deserved time off, I would like to personally thank you for your remarkable efforts and wish you the very best during this Holiday Season.
