Goldcorp Inc, the world’s premier gold mining company, recently pledged a gift of $1.5 million to the University of Ottawa as an endowment for a Chair in Economic Geology. Mark Hannington of the Department of Earth Sciences has been named as the first Goldcorp Chair holder.
As a result of this partnership, Goldcorp Inc. will become a founding member of a new Canadian Shield Research Institute at the University. The institute will promote interdisciplinary research and education in the area of natural resources in the Canadian Shield. The Goldcorp Chair will play a lead role in the development of this new institute.
