André E. Lalonde named interim dean of the Faculty of Science
Alumnus André E. Lalonde, professor of mineralogy and geology in the Department of Earth Sciences, has been named interim dean of the University of Ottawa’s Faculty of Science. He replaces André R. Dabrowski who is on medical leave.
Professor Lalonde holds an MSc and PhD from McGill University and a science degree from the University of Ottawa. He has taught in the Departments of Geology and Earth Sciences at the University since 1986. In 2001, he was a visiting research scholar at Akita University in Japan. Lalonde has significantly contributed to his discipline in various capacities, including serving as associate editor of Canadian Mineralogist from 2003 to 2006. In addition to receiving many teaching accolades, a mineral called lalondeite, was named in his honour.
