Agreement creates first rural teaching community hospital
The Winchester District Memorial Hospital (WDMH) became the first rural teaching community hospital affiliated with the University of Ottawa’s Faculty of Medicine with the ratification of a formal partnership agreement on May 19, 2006.
The agreement will enhance health care service delivery in Eastern Ontario, while medical students and residents will benefit from added opportunities for clinical experience in a rural setting.
The WDMH, which was founded in 1948, is a 70-bed hospital comprised of 44 acute care beds and 26 complex continuing care beds. It is networked with The Ottawa Hospital and the Hawkesbury General Hospital. Health services in general practice, surgery, internal medicine, gynaecology, anaesthesia, dentistry, ophthalmology, urology, geriatrics, paediatrics, rehabilitation, and mental health are supported by a group of 52 physicians.
