Carrey joined a team of five Americans, who departed for Nepal on March 19, 2006. They plan to attempt the climb in May, 2006.
“I have thought of climbing Everest since the age of 11,” says Carrey, a regular speaker at various schools across the region. “I want to be a model of inspiration for young people. It’s important to motivate them to achieve their goals and their dreams, to show them that it’s not so difficult. To want it is enough.”
Carrey has been training for the last six years and has already conquered some of the highest summits in the world, including Nepal’s Island Peak, Argentina’s Mount Aconcagua and Alaska’s Mount McKinley, the highest peak in North America. His next challenge, Mount Everest, is a grueling 8,850 metre climb.
