Common efforts in the promotion and creation of French second language learning opportunities for young Canadians have led to a partnership agreement between the University of Ottawa and Canadian Parents for French.
As part of the five-year agreement, the University of Ottawa will offer $20,000 scholarships ($5,000 annually, renewable) to the winners in the five categories of the Concours national d’art oratoire, a Canada-wide public speaking competition sponsored by Canadian Parents for French. Finalists in each category will receive $2,000 entrance scholarships. The University will host the 2006 contest on May 27.
“French-language education in minority situations and teaching French as a second language are complementary forces in helping to advance the concept of linguistic duality in Canada,” said President Gilles Patry.
With 22,000 members, Canadian Parents for French (CPF) is a national network of volunteers dedicated to promoting French as a second language and creating learning opportunities for young Canadians.
