Partnerships support management programs

The School of Management is teaming up with another university and local businesses to offer new programs.

A partnership with the University of Toronto Rotman School of Management will allow the delivery of an advanced program in Human Resources Management (APHRM) in downtown Ottawa.

APHRM is Canada’s most comprehensive certificate in Human Resource management, and has been offered by the University of Toronto since 1986. The program consists of four five-day modules spread over six months that will be held at the University of Ottawa Executive MBA Centre in the World Exchange Plaza, starting in April 2006.

The program is approved by the Human Resources Professionals Association of Ontario and qualifies participants to take the national certification exams, which are needed to attain the Certified Human Resources Professionals (CHRP) designation.

The school’s Executive MBA Program has also created The Leadership Forum with the support of six organizations: Scotiabank, Ernst & Young LLP, Borden Ladner Gervais LLP, the Ottawa Citizen, the Ottawa Business Journal, and the Canadian Advanced Technology Alliance (CATA).

The forum will offer six sessions focussing on corporate accountability, starting on February 22, with such notable speakers as alumnus Rob Ashe, president and CEO, Cognos; Jim Roche, president and CEO, Tundra Semiconductor; Don Smith, CEO, Mitel; Rod Bryden, CEO, PharmaGap Inc.; and Paul Coffin, one of the key players in the sponsorship scandal investigated by the Gomery Commission.

The sessions are aimed primarily at senior executives. Participants must apply for the sessions and be accepted by a selection committee.
