Professor Hussein Mouftah of the School of Information Technology and Engineering is the recipient of the Julian C. Smith Medal from the Engineering Institute of Canada (EIC) in recognition of his contribution to the development of Canada.
Mouftah joined SITE in September 2002 as a Canada Research Chair in Optical Networks. His current research deals with the design of more cost-effective, efficient and reliable telecommunications networks for the next-generation high-speed multi-service Internet.
The author of five books, 22 book chapters and more than 700 papers, Mouftah also holds eight patents.
